Master of Science (Electrical Engineering)

The Master of Science (Electrical Engineering) is intended for those holding a relevant Bachelor’s degree and wish to continue their education at the graduate level on a full-time basis; as well as for the working professionals on a part-time basis.

The programme provides opportunities for working professionals, practising engineers and university graduates to upgrade their knowledge and core capabilities in various area of engineering involving nano-science and nano-technology, biomedical systems, computer/multimedia systems, digital and wireless communications, intelligent control systems, electronic and optoelectronic materials and devices, silicon integrated circuits, microwaves and electromagnetics, and electrical energy systems.

Students have an option of specializing in a focused area within the Electrical Engineering (EE) domain or graduating without any specialization. Our programme provides the students with the knowledge and practical skills in the electrical engineering domain and our students have been well placed in industries and research institutes in Singapore as well as globally.

The Master of Science (Electrical Engineering) is a coursework-based degree programme structured around lectures and end-of-semester examinations during the regular semester I and II of the academic year.

The language of instruction for the graduate courses is English.

NUS Student Work Scheme - The NUS Student Work Scheme (NSWS) is aimed to encourage NUS students to be self-reliant and to gain some working experience on campus. The details of the jobs available under the NSWS will reside in a central portal NUS TalentConnect where both prospective NUS Hiring Departments and the interested NUS Student Applicants can find a job match.

International Students

> Working in Singapore during study
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority's (ICA) student pass entitles international students to seek part-time jobs and internships in Singapore. We advise international students to familiarise themselves with the ICA's website for current information governing student work privileges in Singapore.

According to the Employment of Foreign Workers Act (Cap 91A, S4) Work Permit (Exemption) (Consolidation) Notification.

>Working during term vacations:
All international students* studying in NUS on ICA's student pass are eligible to work during term vacations without having to apply for work permit.

> Working during academic term time:
International students* are allowed to work not more than 16 hours per week.
*International Students here refers to NUS full-time matriculated students.

Incoming Non-Graduating Exchange (NGE) students intending to do an internship / industrial attachment (IA) in Singapore (regardless of whether they receive remuneration) will have to apply for the appropriate work pass. Such NGE students can apply for the:

  1. Work Holiday Programme (WHP) or
  2. Training Employment Pass (TEP)

for the period of their internship depending on whether they meet the respective criteria as per MOM's website.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with Honours, in relevant engineering discipline, or other disciplines including computing and applied mathematics, from an institution of recognized standing. Candidates with other qualifications and achievements deemed to be suitably prepared for the programme of study may also be considered.

The above are minimum requirements which do not guarantee admission. Selection of candidates for admission is on a competitive basis.

English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate their English proficiency by means of Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores. Applicants may be waived from this requirement if they completed their degree programme taught entirely in English, situated in an English speaking country, for example (non exhaustive list) Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, USA.

The official TOEFL/IELTS scoresheets must be provided during the online application period, otherwise your application will not be considered.

To meet the English requirement, the minimum score expected is:

  • TOEFL (Internet-based test): 85 or
  • IELTS (Academic): 6.0

The TOEFL score or IELTS result is only valid for 2 years after the test and should be valid at the beginning of the application period.

Other tests (including the TOEFL Institutional Test) and those that claim to be predictions, estimations, equivalents, simulations, etc. (e.g.MyBestscores), of the TOEFL or IELTS are unacceptable.
