The Caring Futures Institute works with leading care organisations, health professionals, community partners and consumers to pioneer outcome-driven research that makes a positive impact on people’s lives, tackling some of the world’s most ‘wicked problems’.

Through our research in health sciences and allied health, we aim to help facilitate change and positively influence health care practice, leading to better health systems, better care, and better health across the lifespan.

By undertaking a PhD in health sciences or allied health, you will be working towards creating solutions to current and future healthcare problems in Australia’s largest industry.

Our team is part of the Flinders Caring Futures Institute, working with leading organisations, professionals, community partners and people with disability to pioneer outcome-driven research that makes a positive impact on people’s lives, tackling some of the world’s ‘wicked problems’.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To be accepted for enrolment in a Doctor of Philosophy candidature, an applicant must have at least one of the following Australian qualifications (which must include studies relevant to the proposed field of research), or the equivalent qualification as approved by the relevant authorised delegate:
  • A Bachelors degree with Honours class 1 or 2A
  • A Doctor of Medicine with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5
  • A Graduate Diploma or Masters degree by coursework with a research component of at least 18 units, with an average GPA of at least 6 in the research component
  • A Masters by Research degree
  • Applicants must also satisfy the University that they are reasonably likely to be able to complete the requirements of the award within the maximum duration.
In addition, to be accepted for enrolment in a Doctor of Philosophy candidature on the basis of Prior Published Work, an applicant must have:
 
Completed their qualification (as above) at least three years before their application for candidature for this degree.
Spent at least three years following conferral of the qualifying award substantially engaged in the practice and study of the discipline or related discipline.
Satisfied the University that there is a prima facie case that their prior published work meets the requirement for admission to the award.
 
International students must satisfy our English language proficiency requirements for admission. If your first language is not English you will need to have:
  • Achieved the required test score for the course you are applying for. The IELTS and equivalent scores to meet the various levels are shown in Schedule 1, and in the table below#; or
  • Successfully completed an approved secondary or tertiary qualification, taught in the English language in a country where English is the official language or the main language spoken (for up to an overall IELTS of 6.5) with evidence no more than five years old on the proposed date of commencement of the course; or
  • Successfully completed a pre-course English program from an approved ELICOS Provider.
