Actuarial Science (BS)

Actuaries analyze the financial consequences of risk and uncertainty. As an actuarial science major at DePaul, you will learn to interpret statistics to determine probabilities of accidents, sickness, death and the loss of property from theft and natural disasters.

Actuarial science students draw upon mathematics, statistics and financial theory to learn to do the following:

Apply the laws of probability and statistics to problems
Understand the theory of interest and its applications to the pricing of securities
Calculate the financial costs and benefits of insurance for various individuals
Design, implement and monitor life contingency models
Describe risk management frameworks and identify how specific risks can be quantified
Study uncertain future events, concerning risk management and insurance
For international students: this program is a STEM-designated program, which can qualify you to extend your post-graduation stay in the United States.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

India

Required Documentation (if still in high school): Secondary School Certificate (SSC)/School Leaving Certificate (SLC) or All India Secondary School Certificate or Pass Certificate Result of Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (Grade 10 examinations)

Required Certification (if completed high school): Higher School Certificate / Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or Intermediate Certificate Examination or All India and Delhi Senior School Certificate or Pass Certificate Result of Indian School Certificate Examination & Grade 10 examinations

TOEFL = 80 on the IBT TOEFL with no subsection lower than 17

IELTS Academic = 6.5 on the IELTS Academic

Duolingo English Test (DET) = 115 on the DET

PTE Academic = minimum English academic score of 53

Revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test = 59 on the PdT overall with no subsection lower than 17
