English Education (7-12), PTC
The English education (7-12) postbaccalaureate teacher certification program leads to eligibility for New York State initial certification to teach English in grades 7-12. This program is designed for students who have earned a baccalaureate degree in English or a related field from an accredited college or university and intend to complete the coursework required for New York State certification to teach English in secondary or middle schools.
After successfully completing the teacher certification program and passing required New York State teacher certification exams, students are eligible to apply for New York State certification through the Teacher Certification Office, Chase Hall 222. No degree or certificate is awarded by Buffalo State.
Students are responsible for any additional certification requirements, including the Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST), the Assessment of Teaching Skills written test for provisional/initial certification, and child abuse certification.
It takes approximately three to four semesters to complete certification requirements at Buffalo State. Students in this program take both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and are billed appropriately for each level. Graduate-level credits may be applied to a master’s degree at Buffalo State.

PSW Opportunity
Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in the baccalaureate program or a 3.0 in previous graduate coursework.
Applicants for whom English is a second language must submit a score of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo English Test as documentation of English language proficiency.
Applicants with a minimum TOEFL score of 550 or higher on the paper exam or 79 on the Internet exam, an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher, or a Duolingo score of 100 or higher may be considered for admission.
