Master of Science (Professional)
In this flexible, 2 year full-time course, you will complete advanced coursework subjects and then undertake your own independent research project or choose to apply your skills in an industry-based project. The research project is a pathway towards a PhD by research program.

Complete a structured co-curricular employability skills and development program, which runs for the duration of the degree. This includes a tailored plan to support individual employment objectives, beginning from semester one through to graduation.
Masters of Science (Professional) graduates are well equipped to evaluate global environmental challenges and driven to design innovate, sustainable and holistic solutions. Choose one of seven majors, and take specialised elective subjects from the same discipline or broaden your skills with subjects from a complementary discipline. You will also have the opportunity to study subjects in Singapore, the Galapagos Islands, Thailand or Vietnam.
If you choose to major in the same field of study as your undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree, you may be eligible to receive up to six months advanced standing.

JCU Cairns houses teaching and research facilities, the JCU library, cafés, bars, fitness and sporting facilities and a wealth of student clubs and societies.

The campus is located in the Townsville Tropical Intelligence and Health Precinct (TropiQ) in the suburb of Douglas. JCU Townsville is set in a 386-hectare natural bush and parkland setting, 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the Townsville CBD.

- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
