Doctor of Philosophy (Mathematics)
Geometric flows describe geometries changing through heat flow and diffusion. They arise naturally in many fields, from phase change and tumbling stones to string theory, and provide new tools for understanding questions in geometry and physics.
This scholarship is part of an Australian Research Council Discovery Project that aims to develop techniques for the design and analysis of highly nonlinear geometric flows and apply them to understand long term behaviour of these processes.
The new methods will contribute to the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations, enable the application of geometric flows to resolve important geometric and topological questions, and produce new theoretical tools applicable to similar systems arising in areas such as image processing, finance and material science.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
An applicant for admission to candidature for a Doctoral Degree (Research) shall:
i) have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the degree of Bachelor with Honours Class 1 or Honours Class II, Division 1 or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Head of School/Nominee; or
ii) have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the degree of Bachelor in the University or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Head of School/Nominee, and have achieved by subsequent work and study a standard recognised by the Head of School/Nominee as equivalent to at least Honours Class II, Division 1; or
iii) in exceptional cases submit evidence of possessing such other academic or professional qualifications and/or experience as may be approved by the Head of School/Nominee; or
iv) in the disciplines of education, medical physics, nursing, social work, social sciences and surgery have completed a minimum standard of professional experience as required by the Head of School/Nominee; An Australian Honours degree with Class 1 or Class II, Division 1. For international students, a four year Bachelor degree including a significant research training component attained at a high standard, is commonly considered equivalent to an Australian Honours degree; and
