1. What are the requirements for admission to U.S. colleges and universities?

The institution requires you to write a personal essay and your reasons for choosing the college along with letters of recommendation. 2. Which college or university is the best for me?
Technically the best college is the one where your profile and the college profile match and that in a way is the best college for you. It will be difficult to find out a best college or university in all aspects. As far as best factors of a college or university are concerned you can check for factors like the quality, reputation, competitiveness, admission requirements, funding availability, class demographics, living environment, location, field of study, geography/climate, urban/rural setting, enrollment size, number of international students, faculty profiles, potential graduate mentors, faculty publications, research facilities, curriculum structure, and professional accreditation of a college or university before applying for admission. There are some 4,000 regionally accredited colleges and universities in the U.S. The educational programs these colleges and universities in USA offer may be not identical to each other. So make sure before taking admission that the college or university provides such a program which is compatible with your career goal.
3. What is the difference between an undergraduate and a graduate degree?
In the US an undergraduate programme is taken after completion of 12 years of formal education . Undergraduate or a Bachelor degree is the first level of higher education in the United States. A student can apply for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) which is a four years undergraduate program. The minimum qualification required to take up an under graduate degree is the completion of secondary school education. It is possible for a students of first, second and third year students in undergraduate program to transfer their institutions from one college to another.
Graduate programs are also known as Master's degree in USA. Master of Arts, Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) are come under graduate degree. A student who has successfully completed an undergraduate degree can apply for a graduate degree. Generally undergraduate programs are for four years Masters or graduate degree is a two years program. PhD is the highest academic degree and it takes a minimum of three years. An interested candidate who would have completed his/her master degree can be considered for this course. You should always consult an educational advisor before taking any decision whether it is an under graduate, graduate or PhD program.
4. How long does it take to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees?
Although Undergraduate program takes four year to complete in some cases students who study in their respective home country can get credits for modules of instructions completed so that the time can be spent on other modules. Graduate degree such as master and PhD have varies in time limit. In master degree the duration is two years and PhD takes three years to complete. A student can spend up to three years to complete his/her PhD degree by studying, researching and submitting a dissertation.
5. What is the difference between a college and a university?
Those educational institutions that offer degree programs can call be called as college, university, or other terms. Although college is in no way inferior to university yet there is a general perception that is college is smaller and offers only undergraduate degree where university offers graduate degree.
6. What are the different kinds of institutions I can choose from?
Primarily there are four types of educational institutions such as state universities, private universities, community colleges, and technical/vocational colleges. Universities like state or private offer four years bachelor's degrees whereas community colleges offer two years associate degree and technical or vocational colleges offer varied certificate programs.
7. What are the qualifying tests that I must take to be considered for undergraduate admission?
One of the main criteria could be Language proficiency for international students who need to demonstrate that they are proficient in English. For all international students who did not have English as their mother tongue must appear a TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) or now IELTS (International Language Testing Scheme) test to prove their English proficiency. A student's English speaking, listening, reading, and writing may come into consideration if he/she applies for studying in America. Besides TOEFL there will be a SAT reasoning test, SAT subject test to gauge an applicant's various skills. There may be varied subject related and program related test you may have to face if you want any specialized course or higher degree.

American International Recruitment Council is a non-profit Standards Development Organization controlled by United States educational post-secondary institutions which certifies recruitment agents who meet the standards of the organization.
