- About the Advanced practice specialisation

The hallmark of this specialisation is discovery: preparing you to meet an organisational need with innovative ideas where there may be no existing solutions. Previous graduates addressed a specific issue or challenge to enhance patient/consumer outcomes.
In this specialisation, you'll learn how to apply evidence-based practices, deliver high-quality care, and develop leadership capabilities to promote health and wellbeing for individuals, groups and communities. Get the opportunity to specialise in areas that may include extended clinical assessment and evaluation, advanced clinical interventions, case management, therapeutic communication, professional digital literacy, leadership and management, and health promotion and advocacy.

About the Applied research specialisation
Conduct a research project to address issues related to public health.
In this specialisation, you'll undertake research in a public health area such as epidemiology, global health, health policy and management, health promotion and environmental health. Benefit from mentorship and supervision from academics, work with industry groups to complete your project and gain practical research experience. Graduate ready to improve the health of communities through a career in public health, health policy or health promotion, or go further with PhD studies.

    • Support people who are injured or experiencing disability or disadvantage, through the counselling process, to reintegrate into work and/or the community.

    • Work with individuals who are experiencing personal difficulties and help them to make meaningful and helpful changes geared toward promotion of wellbeing in their lives.
       
  • Mental health counsellor
    • Promote individual and/or community mental health and wellbeing through helping individuals, families, groups and/or communities to process difficult emotions, and through assessment and treatment of mental health disorders and trauma.
       
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counsellor
    • Assist employees, through the counselling process, with personal problems impacting their work performance, health and/or wellbeing.
       
  • Student wellbeing coordinator
    • Provide welfare support, through the counselling process and coordinate development and wellbeing programs for students.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).
  • Specialisation - recommended: Health Sciences, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences or other relevant field.
  • Applicants with industry experience will also be considered.
    Students who have completed Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Counselling (PHG0001CI) can enter the course via Cognate pathway and receive up to 120 credit points (1 year).
