Effective planning requires knowledge and understanding of the social, economic, environmental, and geographic diversity of people and places. Planning plays a key role in determining the development, spatial design, and purpose of cities, settlements, and rural and natural landscapes.

Central to the MURPlan philosophy are the M?ori concepts of manaakitanga (caring for people) and kaitiakitanga (caring for the environment). As a profession, planning engages with key issues of our times. It plays a leading role in addressing climate change, biodiversity and coastal protection, urban regeneration, housing provision, and economic development. It also engages with matters of environmental and social justice.

The MURPlan is a new programme at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. It’s based in the School of Architecture, which is located in the vibrant heart of central Wellington’s Cuba Street precinct.

PSW Opportunity
- During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
- After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
- After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
For entry into a programme at postgraduate level (including a graduate diploma, Honour’s degree, postgraduate diploma, or Master’s degree), as a minimum, you need the equivalent of a Bachelor’s (undergraduate) degree from a recognised institution with at least a B average.
A background in a particular subject area may be required or recommended. Entry is at the programme director’s discretion.
