Study in Malaysia

Malaysia is one of the most affordable study destinations in Asia. Tuition fees vary depending on the university and program:

• Public universities: MYR 7,000 - MYR 15,000 per year
• Private universities: MYR 25,000 - MYR 60,000 per year
• International branch campuses: MYR 40,000 - MYR 100,000 per year
• MBA programs: MYR 40,000 - MYR 80,000

Living expenses are also very manageable, ranging between MYR 12,000 and MYR 18,000 per year, including accommodation, food, transport, and personal costs. Cities like Kuala Lumpur and Penang offer excellent infrastructure and a vibrant student lifestyle.

Malaysia is home to an array of institutions, including top-ranking public universities such as the University of Malaya and international campuses of universities such as Monash University, the University of Nottingham, and Heriot-Watt University. Students can choose to study foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees in English. Many courses are offered in partnership with universities overseas, allowing students to complete some parts of their studies in countries like the UK or Australia and giving them more options.

The admission entries depend on the level of study and the institution. An international student may be required to submit the following for admission to each study period for all English-medium programs:

Most institutions in Malaysia have two main intakes for study:

• February/March (Spring)
• September/October (Fall)

Some universities have rolling admissions or have intakes in June/July.

• University-based scholarships based on merit.

• Financial aid is based on an applicant's status as being from an ASEAN or developing country.

If you want to study in Malaysia as an international student, you must apply for a student visa managed online through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). To apply, you will need the following:

• An offer letter from a registered institute
• A scanned copy of your passport and medical report
• Evidence of financial support and your academic documents

Generally, a student visa is valid for the duration of your course and offers limited part-time work (20 hours per week) during semester break. Graduates can also seek post-study work opportunities and apply for and transition to employment via the country's talent development avenues if successfully hired where there is a demand for talent.
