Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary)

Not only does this stream give you a broad knowledge of learning, teaching, curriculum and assessment as a primary generalist, it also provides specialised focus on subject-specific secondary teaching. You'll extend your teaching capabilities to classes from Year 7 through to VCE, with in-depth knowledge and expertise in your chosen area, whether it be biology, English, mathematics, physical education, or psychology.

Throughout your study, you will complete a minimum of 80 days' supervised placement in schools and other educational settings.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • You must have successfully completed a qualification recognised by RMIT as equivalent to the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) with a minimum average of 70% 

Prerequisites

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Units 1 and 2: 

  • satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics; or

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Units 3 and 4:

  • satisfactory completion of any Mathematic or equivalent studies.

Professional compliance requirements

  • If you are successful in obtaining a place in this program, you must meet a number of professional compliance requirements upon commencement of your studies.

Working With Children Check

  • Applicants will be required to hold a valid Victorian Working with Children (WWC) Check (valid for 5 years) prior to undertaking professional placement as part of this program.

Note: For placements undertaken interstate a valid WWC Check is required for that state.
