Postgraduate Certificate in Education

With the Postgraduate Certificate in Education, you develop advanced knowledge of education in as little as one semester.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education is a flexible, short program that develops advanced knowledge, critical evaluation and communication skills and applies them to problems of education policy and practice. It provides a pathway to further postgraduate study in the Master of Education. You can choose from specialized or general papers.

This is not an initial teacher education program and will not lead to registration with the Teaching Council of New Zealand.

AUT CITY CAMPUS

Our City Campus is in the heart of Auckland. It is AUT’s biggest campus and home to most academic units and the central administration, including the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

AUT NORTH CAMPUS

Our North Campus is on Auckland’s North Shore and offers facilities including student accommodation, cafes and our biggest sports centre.

AUT SOUTH CAMPUS

Our South Campus is located in the heart of Manukau. You can choose from courses based entirely at the South Campus, or include papers at the City or the North Campus.

Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
  • Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ

Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)

Conditions:

  • Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
  • Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)

Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
  • Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)

Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand

- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.

- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.

- Not allowed for part time students.

  • Must have completed a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent

To enrol in one of the specializations in the Postgraduate Certificate in Education you must have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience or the approval of the programme leader.
