Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology)
Accredited by Speech Pathology Australia, the Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) prepares you for professional practice as a speech pathologist. You will be involved in the study and treatment of communication and speech disorders in children and adults, including problems with speaking, comprehension, reading, writing, voice problems, and stuttering.
During this four year degree you will:
- Learn from leading experts researching in a range of specialist areas in communication sciences and disorders.
- Experience hands-on learning and clinical practice. You will develop the ability to work with children and adults with communication difficulties caused by congenital or developmental problems, illness, and emotional or physical trauma.
- Study a wide range of areas in speech therapy, including speech science, linguistics and phonetics, neuroscience, motor speech and dysphagia, and counseling and behavior management for communication disorders.
- Observe clients in your first year before commencing clinical practice from your second year, practicing under supervision in the on-campus clinic, hospitals, community health centres, developmental disability services, schools, and specialist clinics.
Campus Information
Camperdown/Darlington

Cumberland
Located in Lidcombe, the heart of Sydney’s sprawling greater west, Cumberland campus is home to the Sydney School of Health Sciences. Campus facilities include a large health sciences library, specialized laboratories, health clinics and state-of-the-art sports science education facilities. The Cumberland Student Guild manages all non-academic services on campus, including a food court, bookstore and shopping outlets. The University intends to move the Sydney School of Health Sciences from its current location in Cumberland to new facilities on the Camperdown/Darlington campus in 2021. Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- A secondary education qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), OR approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses.
- There are no prerequisites for this course.
