Bachelor of Veterinary Biology (Honours)
Meritorious students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology / Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (BVB/DVM) at the University of Sydney are eligible to apply for Honours in Veterinary Biology. External students are ineligible.
Students who qualify to undertake Honours in Veterinary Biology must suspend candidature from the BVB/DVM for one year in order to enrol in Bachelor of Veterinary Biology (Honours) on a full-time basis. Part-time enrolment is only permitted in exceptional circumstances with the permission of the Dean of Science (or delegate).
The Honours year is a widely recognised and highly regarded additional year of undergraduate study. It's a unique opportunity for you to explore your research potential and put the theory from your undergraduate studies into practice. An Honours qualification is not only well regarded in academia, but also in industry where laboratory experience and a command of scientific thought processes are highly sought after.

PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
1. Applicants must be current BVB/DVM students at the University of Sydney:
- All internal students in other degree course are ineligible
- All external applicants are ineligible.
2. Applicants must have completed at least 3 years (144cp) of the BVB/DVM:
- Applicants must be at the end of Year 3, Year 4 or Year 5 of the BVB/DVM
- Any applicants at the end of Year 1 or Year 2 are ineligible
- Any applicants in the middle of Year 3 are ineligible, i.e. incomplete Year 3.
3. Applicants must be academically meritorious:
- Applicants must have a minimum 2/3 WAM of 65.
