Transport Engineering and Management MSc

Sustained focus towards economic growth has resulted in massive growth in transport infrastructure and inherent technologies and this growth is expected to accelerate further in future. To sustain this growth a steady supply of well-trained transport engineers and managers is needed. In general, engineering and management of transport systems is regarded as an exciting area globally and thus there is not only a local but a global demand for competent engineers and managers that are required to have a sound understanding of engineering and management principles. These engineers and managers are needed to demonstrate clear applications of these principles in the process of design, development and management of transport systems both at component level and at system level. Additionally aspiring engineers and managers need to demonstrate a good degree of independent critical thinking and the ability to foresee beyond the current challenges and work as part of a team towards a common goal.

This course has been designed keeping current technological and managerial needs in mind and proposes to incorporate various aspects concerning the use of materials, manufacturing techniques, the development of computer software programs and their use within the innovative and optimised design and management processes and also very importantly control and management of the transport system in general and vehicles in particular.

The course will enhance your engineering science knowledge and will allow its application within the transport engineering systems along with in-depth exposure to detailed knowledge of the operational needs in order to manage the operations of transport systems safely and reliably. In addition, the course incorporates the environmental aspects of transport systems including vehicle operational characteristics with a view to address the issue of environmental pollution and use of recyclable products from a system management perspective. As a Master level course we recognise the latest development and management of transport systems, for example the “intelligent/smart vehicle” and the X-by-wire (any electrically actuated system) concepts in order to encourage further research and independent thought in these areas.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry requirements for this course are normally:

An Honours degree (2:2 or above) in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Systems, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Transport Engineering, or an equivalent professional qualification.

You are also encouraged to apply if you have other qualifications and/or experience and can demonstrate that you are equipped with knowledge and skills equivalent to Honours degree level.

If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.
