Occupational hygienists apply scientific knowledge and techniques to the measurement and control of hazards that can harm the health and wellbeing of workers and others in the work environment.
Designed for science, engineering and health science graduates, this specialist program will build on your scientific background, focusing on the practical skills and knowledge you will need to manage the health impacts of work environments.
Learn about the consequences of exposure, how to quantitatively measure them, and what controls are required to reduce risk. Explore a broad range of health hazards, including airborne dusts, gases and vapours; physical hazards such as noise, vibration and radiation; biological hazards such as viruses and bacteria; ergonomic hazards and emerging risks such as nanotechnology.
In your 1.5 years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) study, you'll complete 11 courses, including an industry-based occupational hygiene research project to extend your independence as a researcher and help refine your skills in this discipline area

PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for entry, you'll need:
- a bachelor's degree in science, engineering or health sciences, with two or more first-year, university-level science courses that cover human anatomy, human physiology, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and/or physics, or
- to have successfully completed at least 3.5 years of study towards an approved qualification at an overseas partner institution, including research requirements, with a formal pathway to the Master of Occupational Hygiene.
You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.
