Bachelor of Business (Honours)
The Bachelor of Business Honours year provides a bridge between undergraduate study and advanced research. With an Honours degree you can move into academic and/or public sector positions requiring advanced research and analytical skills that will aid policy formulation and analysis.
This degree
The program provides:
- Training in research skills using a variety of information systems (archives, the Library, databases, electronic research networks).
- An opportunity to practice articulating complex ideas orally and in writing.
- Practice in working closely with a supervisor on a project and in preparing a major project within a deadline.
- Experience in devising, researching and writing up an individual topic of study in an extended argument/thesis.
Some examples of government institutions that employ students who complete an Honours degree are the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Australian Treasury, and the Australian Productivity Commission.
Honours students will also have the opportunity to pathway into a research degree.

PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify for entry into Honours, students must have qualified for a Bachelor degree with an average of at least 75% across the major (or majors) in which the Honours degree will be undertaken with the additional requirements of a Distinction in two of the 300 level subjects required by the major.
- Applicants are also required to complete a 500 word outline of the proposed thesis topic. The outline should indicate the topic the applicant would like to research, as well as a justification of the significance of the research from a personal and/or intellectual point of view.
- Students considering an Honours degree are encouraged to talk to the Program Coordinator well in advance to seek approval for enrolment, discuss their program, and negotiate a thesis topic and supervisors.
