Bachelor of Science - Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences

The Bachelor of Science degree gives you the advantage of flexibility. Not sure you’ve found your passion just yet? With a common first year, introductory courses allow you to explore the sciences and find your passions. This flexibility gives you the power to easily switch between our many different majors and create an academic plan that suits you best. Work closely with award-winning faculty making groundbreaking discoveries in fields as diverse as pharmaceuticals and neuroscience. Some of our faculty even helped design instrumentation for NASA's Mars Rover! You too will have opportunities to contribute to discoveries that will aid humankind, our planet, and beyond – all while completing your science degree.

Why Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences?
Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences (NANS) is a unique major in Canada and focuses on understanding the contribution of food, beverage and nutritional supplement consumption to growth, development of optimal biological function, maintenance of health, and treatment of disease. The program explores how we can use foods and nutrients to develop innovative products that will benefit humans, animals and the environment.

After building a foundation in the biological sciences, students examine the biology of nutrition from a molecular and cellular level to the whole organism. In senior years, you will dive deeper, taking courses on the role of nutrients in maintaining health and preventing and treating disease, the connection between foods, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical drugs, and regulatory policies, among other courses.
