New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing

Programme outline
The New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing is an 18-month full-time programme, approved by Nursing Council of New Zealand, which prepares students to become an enrolled nurse.
Enrolled nurses assist registered nurses to deliver nursing care to individuals in community, residential and hospital settings. Enrolled nurses contribute to nursing assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation, but the registered nurse remains responsible overall.
The enrolled nurse performs delegated interventions from the nursing care plan to:
provide care and comfort for individuals and groups
assist and support clients with activities of daily living
observe and report changes in individual/group conditions and behaviours
safeguard dignity and promote independence

PSW Opportunity
Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)
- Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
- Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ
Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)
Eligible for PSWV
Conditions:
- Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
- Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)
Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)
- Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
- Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)
Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)
- Duration: 3 years
- Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand
- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.
- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.
- Not allowed for part time students.

Higher Secondary Certificate with passes of 60% aggregate
Under 20 years
NCEA Level 2 or equivalent qualification/work experience.
Over 20 years
If you’re 20 years or over, you may qualify for special admission on this programme. Contact us if you don’t meet the Under 20 entry criteria.
International students
Minimum IELTS (academic) score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6.0, or equivalent
