Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (Honours)

The honours course builds on the skills achieved in the Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience through independent research under the supervision of an academic staff member. 

The honours coursework units develop theoretical and methodological expertise, while the honours thesis, requiring original scholarship, develops and assesses disciplinary expertise. 

Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (Honours) can be completed after meeting the requirements of the 3-year specialist degree and the progression requirements for Honours.

Veterinary Science and Agriculture students and researchers can access an extensive network of farms and research units on Camden campus. Camden is in the Sydney metropolis and part of the growth area in Sydney's south western suburbs.

  • Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
  • Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for admission:

  1. Applicants must have completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (or equivalent) including a major in the proposed honours subject area at the University of Sydney, or equivalent studies at another institution; and
  2. Applicants must have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65 or equivalent or a higher mark in the proposed honours subject area; and
  3. Applicants meet any other requirements for honours entry set by the Faculty of Science.

Please note that satisfying the above admission requirements does not guarantee an offer. Entry is also dependent on the availability of research supervisors and/or suitability of research project.
