Professional recognition
UNE’s Master of Psychology (Clinical) is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council as a higher degree pathway towards General Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.   

On completion of the course, you will be eligible to apply for General Registration as a psychologist (if you do not already hold General Registration). Subsequent supervised practice will lead to endorsement as a clinical psychologist.  

As a graduate of the course, you will be eligible for Area of Practice Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist after completing a further two years of supervised full-time equivalent practice. 

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 four year pre-service teaching qualification of a recognized Australian University or tertiary institution (or overseas equivalent as assessed by Australian Education International National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR)); or

(b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree and an AQF Level 7 or Level 8 or Level 9 one or two-year pre-service teaching qualification of a recognized Australian University (or overseas equivalent as assessed by AEI-NOOSR); or

(c) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in eLearning or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Comparative Education) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Gifted and Talented: Teaching for High Potential) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Literature and New Literacies) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or the Graduate Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education or the Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Australian Education or the Graduate Certificate in International Schooling, Education and Development or the Graduate Certificate in School Leadership or the Graduate Certificate in Special Education or the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages award of the University of New England*; or

(d) hold the AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in Education Studies of the University of New England; or

(e) hold an AQF Level 7 non-initial teacher education Bachelor degree and an AQF Level 8 degree of Bachelor with Honours or Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of a University in a non-relevant discipline**; or

(f) hold a minimum AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree or overseas equivalent as assessed by AEI-NOOSR, and satisfy the School by the provision of evidence (by providing a Statement of Service on company letterhead documenting a minimum two years' full-time equivalent relevant teaching experience) of adequate preparation for candidature**; and

(g) comply with the University's English Language Requirements for Admission Rule.

*Candidates admitted under Rule (c) who hold the Graduate Certificate in eLearning or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (TESOL) or the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages may specialize in the same or different area or not specialize. Candidates admitted under Rule (c) who hold the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Comparative Education) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Gifted and Talented: Teaching for High Potential) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Literature and New Literacies) or the Graduate Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education or the Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Australian Education or the Graduate Certificate in International Schooling, Education and Development or the Graduate Certificate in School Leadership or the Graduate Certificate in Special Education must choose a different specialization or not specialize.

**Candidates admitted without a pre-service teaching qualification shall not be permitted to undertake the following specializations: Indigenous Australian Education or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL-EAL/D).

English language tests
UNE accepts students who have either:

An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic overall score of at least 6.5, with no sub-band less than 6.0.
A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 213 in the computer-based test OR at least 79 in the internet-based test. You must receive a rating of no less than 22 in the written component.
A Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) minimum overall score of 57 with no skill less than 50.
To be eligible, you must have received your English language test score within two years of the date of application for admission to UNE.
