BACHELOR OF COMPUTING
The Bachelor of Computing is designed for applicants who have completed secondary school and wish to obtain a qualification that gives them a clear pathway into an IT-based profession. The primary emphasis of the program is on career-readiness – developing graduates who will be highly sought by industry, through an innovative mix of solid fundamentals and strong professional skills.
The innovative three-year, 144cp course comprises three main “streams” that run in parallel throughout the program. There are clear integration points between and across the streams.
A 72 credit point Core Units stream provides the core conceptual knowledge for the degree and ensures that all students are equipped with the key skills that are expected from all computing graduates.
A 36 credit point Simulated Consultancy Stream that embeds students into a simulated professional IT consulting company throughout the degree program. The students’ progress through a sequence of roles, from intern to junior consultant, to senior consultant, and carry out real-world projects which where possible are sourced from industry clients. The projects are designed to require students to integrate the theoretical knowledge learnt in the core units and apply it to real-world problems. The consultancy project work is supplemented with workshops and seminars that focus on developing additional core capabilities.
A 36 credit point Career Pathways stream that enables students to customise their degree while building industry-relevant knowledge and capabilities. The modules in this stream are intended to evolve rapidly and reflect the most up-to-date industry knowledge and practice. There is an option to undertake one or more industry certifications as part of this stream.
Students may have a Role Specialisation included in their academic transcript. This is achieved by demonstrating a defined set of competencies relevant to a particular industry role (such as Systems Analyst; DevOps Engineer; UX Designer; etc.) through completion of relevant content in the mock consultancy and career pathway streams. This allows employers to have a very clear understanding of what role-specific skills and experience the student has acquired in their degree and are ready to perform in the workplace.
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Computing, a student must complete 144 credit points, comprising:
72 credit points of the Core units stream, including all compulsory core units.
36 credit points of the Mock Consultancy stream.
36 credit points of the Career Pathways stream.
