Responding to and understanding the causes of criminal behavior are major preoccupations of society — and the pursuit of justice has never been more complex or challenging. Whether we’re trying to balance the rights of victims and offenders, create just laws, or protect communities, we often look to the criminal justice system for solutions.
You’ll gain hands-on experience through international exchanges, research and case studies. You’ll graduate with the ability to think critically about issues in law, social inequality, human rights, Indigenous justice, ethics, crime control and prevention. Upon graduation, apply your understanding of the critical issues of race, class, and gender to the administration of the criminal justice system.
This is one of 10 bachelor of arts programs that share a one-year foundation.
Double major options available after first year: Criminology and History, Criminology and Politics and Governance, or Criminology and Sociology.

If your program was less than 8 months
- You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.
If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.
If your program was 2 years or more
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.
If you completed more than 1 program
- You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.
Each of the programs you completed -
- must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses including the following program specific requirements.
Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages:
- A minimum grade of 70 % or higher will be required in Grade 12 U English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred).
