INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION PROGRAMME

The International Foundation Programme is designed to give you a recognised English language qualification so you can progress onto your chosen degree. It will prepare you for a range of degrees in subjects such as Business, Events Management and Tourism, Law, Engineering, Design, Technology and Art and Design*.

The Programme will develop your academic writing, reading, listening and speaking skills. Drawing on the extensive materials from the University library, scientific journals and current news and media, you will learn contemporary research practices and explore academic studies within an evaluative and professional mindset. These skills are essential for effective study at the University of Derby and the course will help introduce you to:

referencing and paraphrasing
critical reading and writing
academic writing style and utilising your academic voice
professional presentations and public speaking
effective note taking and lecture and seminar skills
improving cohesion and coherence
and general English skills to support language development
This course is designed as an introduction to university level study and to the UK. It can be a daunting experience moving to a new country to study but be rest assured that tutors and university services are ready to provide any support you need while settling into the university and in your exploration of studying and living in the UK. The International Foundation Programme is specially designed for international students whose first language is not English, and will include lots of support to improve your English language skills.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

  • Students with a minimum average of 65% in the Standard XII/Intermediate/Higher Secondary Examination can typically be considered for direct entrance to Bachelor degree programmes
  • Students with a minimum score of 60% in the Certificate of General Nursing and Midwifery from State Nursing Boards or Councils can be considered for entrance to the second year of a related degree programme.

English

  • Academic or UKVI IELTS no older than 2 years and must meet the requirement of the course of study.
  • Cambridge IGCSE English with Grade C
  • Completion of UK degree in the UK within the past two years.

For most of our programmes at bachelors degree level and above, you will normally need an IELTS score of between 6.0 and 7.0 with a pre-requisite minimum score in all areas. (speaking, reading, writing and listening). We will accept one of the alternative equivalent qualifications below:

We also accept a number of qualifications from other countries as evidence of English Language proficiency, e.g. WAEC, KCSE or 1119 so please check our international entry requirements for each country.
