TECHNICAL THEATRE AND PERFORMANCE DESIGN BA (Hons)

Please note, this course is not currently open to applications for September 2024. We expect to open for applications from the 5th September 2024 for students to start in September 2025. If you are interested in joining us in September 2024, please see our BA (Hons) Theatre Arts course which is open for applications.

Develop your practice in conjunction with students from our BA (Hons) Theatre Arts and MA Applied Theatre and Education, as well as other Derby students and external partners. The programme embeds partnerships with tech and other partners, where you’ll develop your Createch (creative digital) skills within theatre and performance. Sustainable theatre production, accessibility, inclusivity, civic, and community engagement are at the core of our Programme curriculum. Additionally, there is a wide scope for experimentation, innovation and development of practice-research and independent projects.

Our Derby Campus is made up of several different sites. Getting between them and the halls of residence couldn't be easier. Whether you're heading to lectures or into town, you can hop on to our free Unibuses or enjoy a walk to unwind or set you up for the day.

Job Opportunity Potential

Graduate from this programme as a multidisciplinary designer and/or technician familiar with the creative possibilities of existing and emerging digital technologies alongside traditional theatre tools and techniques. You will be able to explore the potential of theatre and performance in both text-based productions and expanding practices such as socially engaged, immersive, site-specific, design-led performance, performance installation, exhibition design, sound design, and event design. This will provide you with the creative, critical, and technical soft and hard skills that are expected at Industry level for becoming a successful free-lancer, employee or progression to Post Graduate study. 

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

  • Students with a minimum average of 65% in the Standard XII/Intermediate/Higher Secondary Examination can typically be considered for direct entrance to Bachelor degree programmes
  • Students with a minimum score of 60% in the Certificate of General Nursing and Midwifery from State Nursing Boards or Councils can be considered for entrance to the second year of a related degree programme.

English

  • Academic or UKVI IELTS no older than 2 years and must meet the requirement of the course of study.
  • Cambridge IGCSE English with Grade C
  • Completion of UK degree in the UK within the past two years.

For most of our programmes at bachelors degree level and above, you will normally need an IELTS score of between 6.0 and 7.0 with a pre-requisite minimum score in all areas. (speaking, reading, writing and listening). We will accept one of the alternative equivalent qualifications below:

TOEFL iBT Overall score of 79 - 100 (with specific minimum score requirements for each component)

Michigan English Assessment Battery (MELAB)

International GCE O Level English Language: Grade C

We also accept a number of qualifications from other countries as evidence of English Language proficiency, e.g. WAEC, KCSE or 1119 so please check our international entry requirements for each country.
