Our MA Career Guidance and Development provides a solid preparation for anyone wishing to progress to a role such as careers adviser in schools, colleges, universities and local authorities or a careers leader in schools and colleges of further education. The skills you develop will also be invaluable for roles in private and sector based organisations offering career guidance and development activities in community and work-based settings. Our graduates have also been recruited to roles such as Enterprise adviser, widening participation practitioners and researchers.

Studying this subject as an academic discipline will naturally lead you to develop your own career management skills, including building professional and supportive networks. A distinctive feature of this masters is the breadth of opportunities we offer for you to achieve this.

You will gain practical experience within workplace settings through the variety of placement activities you undertake on the course. In addition, our International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGS) has an extensive network of Associates who meet regularly. You are encouraged to attend these meetings to enhance your professional networks and raise your profile within the sector.

Throughout the course, we also enable you to research jobs and opportunities within the career development sector as well as across other industrial sectors. You will become skilled in approaching employers and presenting information about yourself, using a variety of media to improve your employability.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Bachelors degrees from institutions recognised by NARIC or government recognised institutions
Requirements will vary depending on recognition of institution and scoring system used. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis
A score of 60% is considered comparable to a UK 2:1; a score of 50% is considered comparable to a UK 2:2 plus work experience
 
For most of our programmes at bachelors degree level and above, you will normally need an IELTS score of between 6.0 and 7.0 with a pre-requisite minimum score in all areas. (speaking, reading, writing and listening). We will accept one of the alternative equivalent qualifications below:
 
Oxford English Language Level Test (ELLT)
Pearson Test of Academic English
TOEFL iBT Overall score of 79 - 100 (with specific minimum score requirements for each component)
LanguageCert International ESOL SELT B2 – C1
Michigan English Assessment Battery (MELAB)
Michigan Test: Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE)
Cambridge English Scale: B2 – C1
International GCE O Level English Language: Grade C
International GCSE English or English as a Second Language: Grade C
We also accept a number of qualifications from other countries as evidence of English Language proficiency, e.g. WAEC, KCSE or 1119 so please check our international entry requirements for each country.
