Bachelor of Applied Social Work (Level 7)

­­Do you want to make a real difference in your community?

Become a social worker and learn the skills to support and empower people, their family and whanau, to enable positive change.

You will work with all kinds of people to help them overcome challenges and improve their individual and family wellbeing.

Our experienced lecturers will guide you in how to work with people from different nationalities including M?ori, New Zealand/European, Pasifika and new immigrants. You will also work with people of all ages, abilities and diverse backgrounds.

This social work degree is a recognised programme by the Social Work Registration Board. In your fourth year of study, you will be eligible to register and work as a social worker in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Otara

Otara is the main campus for Manukau Institute of Technology. It is set in 12 tree-lined hectares, with large green open spaces and substantial gardens. You'll find us in the heart of South Auckland, with generous parking facilities and close by major public transport links.

Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
  • Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ

Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)
Eligible for PSWV
Conditions:

  • Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
  • Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)

Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
  • Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)

Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand

- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.

- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.

Most certificate programmes require applicants to have completed Year 12 or equivalent of secondary school. Please contact MIT International for further information.

IELTS (Academic) 6.5; no one score below 6.0: TOEFL 575 (230), TWE 4.5. MIT ELP 6.5.
IELTS (Academic) 6.0; no one score below 5.5: TOEFL 550 (213), TWE 4.0. MIT ELP 6.0.
IELTS (Academic) 5.5: TOEFL 525 (190).
MIT English Language Requirements
Most MIT Diplomas and Degrees require a minimum of IELTS 6.0 (Academic) or equivalent. Some Diplomas and Degrees require IELTS 6.5 (Academic) or equivalent see programme for details. MIT Certificates usually require a minimum of IELTS 5.5 (Academic) or equivalent.
