Master of Public Health
In this innovative course, the origins and evolution of public health and the underlying principles of community-based and community-led public health will be explored. The social-ecological model of health forms the basis of the Master of Public Health and you will study complex adaptive systems thinking and how this influences the way we think about public health. You will explore the origins and evolution of public health and the underlying principles and concepts of community-based and community-led public health. These include complex adaptive systems thinking, social and environmental determinants of health, social epidemiology, social justice, partnership development and participatory health research.
You will have the opportunity to apply these concepts in practical ways in both strengths-based and disease prevention approaches. This will ensure that you apply your learning to real-world situations, whether that be taking a strengths-based or disease prevention approach.
You will also have the flexibility of choosing from a list of electives or to undertake the project stream once you have completed the core structure. This project can be practice or research-based allowing you to develop specific skills and knowledge in your area of interest.

Job Opportunity Potential
The Master of Public Health prepares graduates for work in community-based and community-led health services and organisations including international agencies. You can also work on projects for government and non-government organisations relating to a number of health fields including health promotion and health administration.

- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- A completed Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent Bachelor degree, or higher equivalent qualification; or
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority (AHPRA) and a letter of employment demonstrating a minimum 3 years employment in a setting which requires the use of nursing skills.
Employment experience must be demonstrated in the form of an official letter of employment, presented on company letterhead and be signed and dated by a delegated authority. Please ensure that the letter contains your full name, position title, duties performed and length of service.
