Master of Midwifery

The Master of Midwifery at Adelaide University is designed to advance your professional midwifery practice and knowledge.   

Take your practice to the next level through developing advanced specialised knowledge. Scaffolded learning will enable you to build critical thinking, analysis, innovation, leadership, and research skills. 

You’ll have the opportunity to tailor your studies to areas that interest you by selecting from a wide variety of electives. From second year you’ll further focus your learning by selecting either the clinical or research stream. Your learning will culminate in demonstrated clinical application that addresses a specific issue or through producing an original research publication or thesis.  Your learning will be enhanced through immersion in cutting-edge technologies and advancements within the midwifery field. You’ll explore innovative tools and techniques that’ll empower your practice and provide you with the confidence to pioneer improved family and woman-centred care. 

The Master of Midwifery is part of a nested suite of programs. You can choose to exit early with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Midwifery. 

Campus Information

Adelaide City, Mount

The campus encompasses precincts at both the east and west ends of the city. Adelaide City Campus – West features cutting-edge creative studios and modern learning spaces, as well as unique facilities like the Architecture Museum and SASA Gallery. Adelaide City – West is also surrounded by live music venues, and borders Adelaide’s biomedical precinct, where significant and groundbreaking medical research occurs.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.

  • A completed bachelor degree (AQF level 7) or higher from a recognised higher education institution in the field of Midwifery; AND
  • Hold or be eligible to hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
