Graphic Design and Digital Media BFA

Graphic design and illustration are powerful tools for visual communication in today’s digital and interdisciplinary world. This field merges creativity and strategy, helping artists tell meaningful stories, solve real-world problems, and build visual identities across industries.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Digital Media is a stand-alone degree designed to prepare students for careers in the evolving field of visual communication. With nearly half of the students in the Department of Art and Design pursuing graphic design, this program was created to meet student needs and align with professional trends across design and illustration industries.

UWF’s program blends traditional fine art training with modern digital techniques in a collaborative, hands-on environment. One distinctive feature of the program is its collaboration with UWF’s College of Health. Students have access to the Anatomage Lab, a state-of-the-art, interactive anatomy learning tool that enhances their understanding of the human body. Through the Anatomage Table, students study musculature, skeletal systems, vasculature, and organs in 3D. This deeper anatomical knowledge strengthens their figure drawing and illustration skills, especially for those interested in medical and scientific illustration.

An additional feature is the Graphic Design Experiential Learning and Professional Development Program in Exhibition and Event Graphics, known as The TAG Team. Through this initiative, students gain real-world experience by working on exhibition and publication design with professionals across campus and the regional arts community.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Receipt of SAT or ACT Scores Must meet test score admissions requirements as referenced in UWF Regulation 3.042 and UWF Regulation 3.032.

For students with fewer than 60+ credit hours, proof of English proficiency is met by ACT or SAT test score admissions requirements as referenced in UWF Regulation 3.042.

For students with 60+ credit hours, proof of English proficiency is met by at least one of the following options:

At a U.S. college, completed at least 3.0 credit hours with a letter grade of C or higher in English Composition (ENC 1101);

English Proficiency exam qualifying scores, Table A;

Qualifying English and Reading scores from select standardized tests, Table B. Both section subscores must be met; or

Successfully completed IEP program with recommendation from IEP administrator.
