MSPAS Physician Assistant Studies

Becoming an effective clinician involves more than understanding body systems and drug interactions: It requires active listening and empathy. JWU Providence’s Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) focuses on training healthcare professionals who treat the whole patient.

Our curriculum will prepare you to meet the complex needs of patients — and to develop the critical thinking skills to integrate seamlessly into a collaborative, patient-centered medical team.

Hone your clinical and therapeutic skills at our 18,000-square-foot Center for Physician Assistant Studies, located in the center of Providence’s medical education corridor.

One of only a few facilities in the country entirely dedicated to the education of physician assistants, the Center provides students with 24-hour access to cadaver-based anatomy labs, a clinical skills practice center with simulated exam rooms, “active learning” classrooms and more.

In Providence, the university revitalized close to 100 acres of waterfront alongside our Harborside Campus, providing a stunning natural setting and a range of environmental and recreational benefits to the community. The campus’ 82,000-square-foot Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence showcases stunning views of Narragansett Bay and is designed as the nation’s first LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified culinary lab.

For international students or those planning to work outside the U.S., you’ll need to check whether your field is in demand locally, whether your qualification is recognized, and whether visa/work permit rules allow you to stay and work.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.
