Mental Health Specialization Adult Psychopathology - Master
Why this programme
The Master's in Mental Health prepares you for a career in general or mental healthcare, or for scientific research. A unique feature is that you can tailor the program entirely to your educational and practical experience needs. You can choose from two specializations: Adult Psychopathology and Child and Adolescent Psychopathology. Both specializations take one year to complete for full-time students and two years for part-time students.
Multidisciplinary and practice-oriented
The program is characterized by a multidisciplinary, scientific approach to mental health issues. During the master's program, you will build on the knowledge and skills related to mental disorders, theoretical models, and therapeutic approaches you learned during the bachelor's program. Upon completion, you will have the practical skills needed to assess and manage mental health issues, treatments, and systems. In addition to acquiring knowledge, the Master's program in Mental Health focuses on acquiring essential skills in diagnosis, intervention, and research.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
General requirements: previous education
The admission requirements for the 2026-2027 Master's in Mental Health program depend on your previous education. See below to see which requirements apply to you.
You are eligible for admission if you have a university bachelor's degree with the following subjects that are relevant to this master's program:
- Basic knowledge of psychology (HBO and/or University level): (25 ECTS): Overview of theories and research in psychology: clinical psychology, personality psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, work and organizational psychology, neuropsychology
- Psychological diagnosis and treatment (University level): (10 ECTS): Diagnostic cycle for hypothesis testing, psychometrics and test theory, diagnostic domains (intelligence, neuropsychology, personality, psychopathology), evidence-based treatments
- Clinical skills (HBO and/or University level): (8 ECTS): Communication skills, empathic and goal-oriented communication, administering and interpreting psychological tests, basic skills in reporting and clinical decision-making
- Research Methods and Research Skills (University level): (20 ECTS): Statistics (regression analyses, ANOVA), use of statistical software (SPSS, R, JASP), designing and conducting empirical research, interpretation and critical evaluation of scientific literature, ethical aspects of psychological research.
- Academic Writing (University level): (10 ECTS): Fundamental skills in academic writing, structuring academic texts, argumentation and citing sources.
