Kalgoorlie is a historic mining town in the Goldfields region of Western Australia about 600 km east of Perth. The town was originally established in 1893 when gold was first discovered there, and today it remains an important centre for the state’s mining industry. Just outside the town is the Super Pit – the second-largest open-pit mine in the country. Curtin Kalgoorlie is located next to the Central Business District, with student housing a short walk away, providing a focused living and campus atmosphere. The Student Guild is a focus of student activity such as the renowned WASM wombats mining team.

PSW Opportunity

  • Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
  • Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

The Comprehensive Stream is available for school leavers and mature age students; The Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Stream is available to individuals who hold an Australian recognised Diploma in Enrolled Nursing and who are currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2).

Those applying for the Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Stream are required to meet the Curtin University standard entry requirements. You cannot apply to this stream directly. Applications can be submitted via the main course page.

The Registered Nurse Conversion Australian Registration Stream is available to:

  • Registered nurses whose Australian registration has lapsed due to a lack of currency of practice (must have practised within the last 10 years)
  • Registered general nurses from overseas wishing to gain registration in Australia, (must hold qualifications that have been recognised via the Australian Qualifications Framework as equivalent to a diploma in nursing, meet Curtin English and entry requirements and have a minimum of 3 months full time recent clinical nursing experience as a Registered General Nurse in an acute health care setting.
  • Mandatory requirements for professional experience placements (PEP) include but not limited to health and legal screening. Screening costs are the responsibility of the student and it is expected that the student will maintain currency of these for the duration of the course.

More information related to health and legal screening can be located on the Health Sciences’ website. Students must be available for block weeks and rotational shifts during/outside the semester in healthcare facilities. While on PEP students require a Personal Electronic Device with mobile data to complete the assessment tool.

In addition to satisfying Curtin University minimum English standard requirements for nursing courses, all applicants must also demonstrate English language proficiency as specified in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's (NMBA) English language skills registration standards.
