Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics

You will develop the knowledge and skills to work as a dietitian and learn how to help improve the health of individuals and the community. You will learn through extensive hands-on experience in state-of-the-art facilities, including a purpose-built teaching kitchen and a nutrition clinic in the new Griffith Health Centre.

You will develop skills in anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry before you take advanced study in human nutrition. In the final phase of your degree, you will complete a 20-week industry placement to put your skills into practice.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Prerequisites: English, English as an Additional Language, Literature or English & Literature Extension (Units 3&4, C)

Students who require a refresher or who have not done Year 12 Chemistry or Mathematical Methods are strongly recommended to undertake a bridging course prior to commencing this program. For further information, please visit our Bridging and Short Courses website.

Graduate Entry (Trimester 1 entry only)

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Entry pathway of the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, a student must have:

  • successfully completed an approved university degree comprising the equivalent of 160 credit points of science courses which included completion of the following:
  • at least two chemistry courses (equivalent to a minimum of 20 credit points) followed by at least two second-year level biochemistry courses (equivalent to a minimum of 20 credit points) AND
  • at least two human biology courses followed by at least two second-year level physiology courses (equivalent to a minimum of 20 credit points) AND
  • at least one 10 credit point (or equivalent) nutrition course including content on nutrition science AND
  • at least one 10 credit point (or equivalent) food science course.

A thorough understanding of physiology and biochemistry is necessary for the informed study of nutrition and dietetics and is specified as a requirement for Dietitians specified in the DAA Accreditation process.

India

Qualification: All India Senior School Certificate or Comparable Qualification (awarded by CBSE or CISCE)

  • Your entry requirements include: An overall grade average of 65% in the best 4 academic subjects

Sri Lanka

Qualification: Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education

  • Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 2.3 in the best 3 Advanced Level subjects (where A=4, B=3, C=2, S=1)

Nepal

Qualification: Nepalese Higher Secondary Certificate

  • Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 84 in the final year results

Qualification: Nepalese Proficiency Certificate

  • Your entry requirements include: Grade average of 86 in the final year results.
