Doctor of Education

The Doctor of Education is for experienced teachers and educators seeking a professional doctoral qualification. As an aspiring educational leader, you will apply your professional practices and workplace experience to research that makes a difference to the community and to your classroom or organisation.

The Doctor of Education has three components: a research methodology subject, specialisation subjects in your particular content area, and an in-depth, supervised research project.

The specialisation subjects available include: Adult and Vocational Education, Educational Leadership, Higher Education, Information and Communication Technology in Education and Training (ICT), Literacy, Special Education, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Thesis supervision is available in a wide range of specialist areas such as teacher education, sociology of education, professional learning, KLA studies and more.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A Master of Education with credit average (65% or better), or a Bachelor degree of at least four years' duration with Honours Class II Division 2 in an appropriate area. Candidates must also have completed 3 years' relevant professional experience.
 
Special Admission Requirements
All applicants for research degrees must submit a written (preferably typed) proposal as part of their application. This proposal should:
 
commence with a statement detailing any previous research or project experience you have undertaken, including if possible a copy of the abstract of such work;
contain, in no more than one additional page, a clearly focussed research proposal for the study you would wish to undertake throughout your registration in the course; and
conclude with a statement of your motivation for wanting to undertake the research course.
 
Students are advised to make contact with a potential supervisor to discuss their project prior to applying for admission.
