Software Engineering - BEng (Hons)

This course is offered at the Jordanstown campus by the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment. if you want to become a professional with expertise in the engineering processes applied to the computer industry, then you should consider this course.
You undertake six modules in Year 1 covering subjects such as programming (Python and Java), databases, computer technologies, interactive web authoring and systems software. In Year 2, further core modules extend your skills in algorithmic programming, mathematics and web development and introduce topics relevant to professional development, software development, networks and security.
In Year 3 you undertake a year's work experience, in the UK, Ireland, Europe or USA. An alternative to this is to spend a year studying abroad, either in USA or Europe.
You return to the University in Year 4 for a final year of academic study which consists of four compulsory modules. They reflect the core theme of the course at an advanced level. You also undertake a major project which involves the analysis, design, implementation, testing and evaluation of the solution to a substantial software-related problem.

As a graduate with skills in Software Engineering, you will have many career opportunities available to you in a wide range of commercial and industrial organisations developing new software, as project managers, systems analysts, planning and technical manager, information manager. You may also work in database environments or become a consultant.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Each programme will have slightly different requirements, both in terms of overall points and certain subjects, so please check the relevant subject in the undergraduate on-line prospectus.

Normally Ulster University welcomes applications from students with:

All Indian Standard XII (Central Boards or a State Board) with an overall average of 60% to include 50% or above in 5 subjects Where a course has subject-specific requirements 60% will be required in each of these subjects.

OR

3 year Diploma in an engineering or technology subject from a State Board of Technical Education with overall 60% (Accredited by ACITE)

Usually the minimum English language entry requirement is IELTS (academic) of 6.0 (with no band score of less than 5.5).

Some of our courses ask for a higher score.

If you do not meet the English language requirement we will give you a conditional offer subject to you meeting the requirement before the commencement of the course.
