BSc (Hons) in Sound and Live Event Production
The Sound and Live Event Production course will give you the technical skills to transform live performances into events.
You'll study live sound, video, rigging and lighting technology for use in all kinds of venues, from theatre, concerts and festivals, to TV, themed attractions and corporate events.
There is a balance of theoretical and practical applications of technology, so you'll learn how to work with artistic colleagues to find creative solutions to the practical challenges of staging live events.
We regularly get involved in all kinds of events, from pop-up castle cinemas to live sports broadcasts. This mix of theory and practice will prepare you for a career in entertainment, broadcasting, touring logistics, technical production companies, and technical sales.
There are plenty of opportunities to use what you learn on this course, from practical sessions on campus in The Cube, to work placements, attending events and field visits. With a vibrant live music industry in the UK, local TV and film, and a wide range of major sporting and corporate events, you can develop skills to boost your employability in these areas.

Job Opportunity Potential
Throughout the Live Event course you will develop the key skills involved in rigging for theatre, festivals and events, adding to your employability. Mixing theory and practice, the Sound and Live Event Production degree will ensure you are well prepared for a technical career in live entertainment, broadcasting, live performance, event management, with production companies or to conduct freelance work. The latest research shows that unless the industry can recruit 30,000 new technical staff over the next decade, theatre and live music employers will face a shortage of trained technicians, including lighting directors, sound consultants, designers and broadcast experts. Demand for graduates from USW's live event course is likely to increase.
PSW Opportunity
- 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
- 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

India
Academic Qualifications
- An overall average of 60 - 65% or above in the 12th Standard depending on which Board you have studied
- Advanced entry to certain undergraduate degree programmes may be possible for students who hold a UK HND or India Diploma in a relevant subject.
Sri Lanka
Academic Qualifications
- Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with higher grades of between 655-445 (this is equivalent to 112-80 UCAS tariff points) will be considered for direct admission to first-year degree programmes.
- Holders of the Cambridge GCE A-Levels will be considered against the standard UCAS tariff for each individual course for direct admission to first-year degree programmes.
- Advanced entry to certain undergraduate degree programmes may be possible for students who hold an HND in a relevant subject.
Nepal
Academic Qualifications
- Students who have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate in year 12 from CBSE (Central Board of School Education), HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate), NEB (National Education Board) or HSEB (Higher Secondary Education Board of Nepal) with a grade of 65% or above will be considered for direct entry onto an Undergraduate Degree.
- Schooling certificate must be from Kathmandu - except for applications to study at the Dubai Campus where qualifications from outside of Kathmandu are also considered
- Applicants who study the Edexcel or Cambridge A-Level curriculum will follow the normal UCAS tariff.
