BA (Hons) in International Event Management
Delivered in partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel (CMR) and International Convention Centre Wales (ICCW), the course aims to combine the base of Events Management theory with the opportunity to develop practical industry experience in an international market setting. With a strong emphasis on the principles of sustainable project management throughout, the course provides students with an advanced business education whilst contextualising this learning in the field of events management.
The event industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, playing a fundamental part in economic development locally, nationally and internationally. It is now worth £42.3 billion in the UK alone and offers diverse and exciting career opportunities around the world. This innovative International Events Management course will be delivered in partnership with the CMR and ICCW, offering a unique opportunity for students to experience the events industry from a range of perspectives throughout their studies. This is a ‘first of its kind’ programme in the UK and has inherent local, national and international appeal.
The course brings together our established expertise in events studies, and business and management, to provide a critical understanding of the various concepts and issues, research techniques and examples of distinctive practice across this diverse field.

Job Opportunity Potential
The course equips students for careers in management in a range of sectors and particularly within an international context. Graduate trainee opportunities with international companies would be suitable career starting points on completion of the course.
How does the course prepare me for employment?
Students on our existing Events Management degree already have excellent rates of employment on graduation and this new course will focus career opportunities further. As the delivery of the course is undertaken in partnership with the CMR and ICCW, it is envisaged that students will have accelerated opportunities within these companies. Career pathways will also be available in a variety of private, public, non-profit or voluntary organisations, large or small.
Graduates will be well-placed to pursue their careers in a range of fields including events management and general management, as well as the wider areas of marketing, public relations, business development, advertising, sales, or product development. Graduates may become involved in venue management, leisure management, tourism marketing, sports promotion, corporate events & hospitality, arts/film festivals, or entertainment/media industry based roles – anywhere where events play a substantial role.
As well as field trips, industry experience and the dissertation/consultancy project, the Business School supports the USW Enactus branch. Enactus is an international organisation that works with students in developing socially responsible businesses. Students have the ability to become members of the USW branch to work with students in other subject areas on a series of projects that impact the community.
Students will gain a wider range of skills including: critical thinking; problem identification and solving; understanding international contexts; and project management.
This course is unique within the University sector in the way that industry experience is entwined within student learning. The course has been designed in partnership with the CMR and ICCW and other organisations and so clearly address the needs of the industry. It will also continually reflect trends within the sector.
There are a number of unique elements to the course:
- One of the few International Events Management courses in the UK allowing students to be directly involved in the planning and management of events with an international audience from the very start of their study.
- The only International Events Management course in the UK with placement experience with world renowned organisations including the ICCW and CMR.
- Additional industry exposure throughout study, including private and public sector organisations.
- A variety of opportunities to plan and manage live events in practice.
- Inclusion of a module on Sustainable Events Design and Experience at Level 6, (not offered in many competitor courses) which addresses ISO 20121 and United Nations SDGs.
- The added-value of completing events-relevant qualifications such as APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) - (SCQF Level 6), Emergency First Aid Course, IOSH Managing Safely Certificate, Security Industry Authority License, Event Safety Passport and BII National Licensee’s Certificate during the degree
PSW Opportunity
- 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
- 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

India
Academic Qualifications
- An overall average of 60 - 65% or above in the 12th Standard depending on which Board you have studied
- Advanced entry to certain undergraduate degree programmes may be possible for students who hold a UK HND or India Diploma in a relevant subject.
Sri Lanka
Academic Qualifications
- Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with higher grades of between 655-445 (this is equivalent to 112-80 UCAS tariff points) will be considered for direct admission to first-year degree programmes.
- Holders of the Cambridge GCE A-Levels will be considered against the standard UCAS tariff for each individual course for direct admission to first-year degree programmes.
- Advanced entry to certain undergraduate degree programmes may be possible for students who hold an HND in a relevant subject.
Nepal
Academic Qualifications
- Students who have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate in year 12 from CBSE (Central Board of School Education), HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate), NEB (National Education Board) or HSEB (Higher Secondary Education Board of Nepal) with a grade of 65% or above will be considered for direct entry onto an Undergraduate Degree.
- Schooling certificate must be from Kathmandu - except for applications to study at the Dubai Campus where qualifications from outside of Kathmandu are also considered
- Applicants who study the Edexcel or Cambridge A-Level curriculum will follow the normal UCAS tariff.
