Foundation Certificate in Youth & Community Work

The programme is distinctive in that students are able to obtain the Certificate in Youth Work (Level 3), the professional qualification for Youth Support Workers. This qualification is endorsed by Education & Training Standards Wales (Youth Work) and is delivered in partnership with Adult Learning Wales (previously known as the YMCA College).

All of the lectures are undertaken in small cohorts and delivered by qualified staff with significant experience in youth and community work. Students are on placement throughout the course in a wide variety of youth and community settings. These placement opportunities will enable students to obtain the 100 hours of youth work experience required for progression on to the BA (Hons) Youth & Community Work (Youth Work) course.

Youth and community workers play a central role in today’s society, working in a wide range of formal and informal educational settings, supporting individuals’ personal and social development and enabling them to realise their potential.

This course supports and enables students to develop:

Youth work practice informed by relevant theory;
The skills, knowledge, qualities and values necessary for effective youth work practice;
Relevant study skills.

Job Opportunity Potential

Students who successfully complete the Foundation Certificate have the option of progressing to the BA (Hons) Youth & Community Work (Youth Work) course.

The Foundation Certificate course is distinctive in that students are able to obtain the Certificate in Youth Work (Level 3), the professional qualification for Youth Support Workers. Obtaining this qualification increases employability options for students and may open up additional placement opportunities during degree level study.

PSW Opportunity

2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

For India

The equivalent of 5 GCSEs (Grade C and above) to include Maths and English.

For Bangladesh

International Foundation: Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Intermediate with GPA 3.0 or equivalent of 5 GCSEs (Grade A-C) to include Maths and English plus UKVI IELTS of 4.5.
Foundation (with pathways): Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Intermediate with GPA 3.0.

For Sri Lanka

The equivalent of 5 GCSEs (Grade C and above) to include Maths and English.

For Nepal

International Foundation: Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Intermediate with 50% pass OR equivalent of 5 GCSEs (Grade A-C) to include Maths and English plus UKVI IELTS of 4.5
