History and English, BA Hons

Our history and English degree is aimed at anyone with a love of literature and a passion for history. It combines modern British, European and world history with English literature, past and present.

Throughout this degree, you will explore five hundred years of historical ideas, events and literary creativity in Britain, Europe and the world. An array of option modules includes specialist topics such as gender and environmental histories, violence and war, American fiction, international bestsellers and Shakespeare.

You'll study on the Old Royal Naval College, part of a historical World Heritage Site near central London, giving you easy access to the capital's theatres, art galleries and museums. You'll have the opportunity to take a work placement in the creative, cultural, public or heritage sectors, boosting your future career options.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

 

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Academic entry requirements
For standard entry to our Bachelor's programmes, please ensure you meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of Standard XII with a minimum grade of 65%, obtained within the last two years.

For those seeking advanced entry into Year 2 or Year 3, the following requirements apply:

  • Completion of Year 1 of a relevant degree programme with a minimum grade of 60%.

Additionally, for certain courses, it may be necessary to have studied specific subjects during your school or college education to be eligible for admission. Our admissions team will assess your application to determine the relevance of your academic background once you apply.

English language entry requirements

Pre-sessional English programmes are only available to students that have completed a UKVI IELTS. Please visit our Pre-sessional English course page for more information.

To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet one of the following English language proficiency requirements:

IELTS: Overall band score of 6.0 with no individual band score below 5.5.

Standard XII Waiver: Achieve a minimum of 70% in English from Standard XII. (Note: This waiver is not applicable to applicants from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, or Uttarakhand.)

For certain programs such as Psychology, Law, and Architecture, a higher English language proficiency is required:

IELTS: Overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score below 6.0.
