MASTER OF PSYCHOLOGY (CLINICAL)

You’re ready to make your mark and help change people’s lives for the better. Our Master of Psychology (Clinical) continues your deep understanding of human behaviour and mental health. This is the fifth and sixth-year sequence of professional training in psychology for your general registration as a psychologist in Australia.

The course includes coursework and independent research leading to a thesis and practical placement. It also has a minimum of 1,000 hours of practical skills and training at our on-campus clinic and external locations.

This course is accredited without conditions by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).

  • Critically apply advanced and integrated knowledge of psychology relevant to the safe and ethical professional practice of psychology with diverse individuals, groups and communities across the life span and as it relates to the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness
  • Critically apply advanced and integrated knowledge to select and utilize appropriate research and evaluation strategies to answer questions arising from professional and clinical psychology practice
  • Conduct culturally responsive psychological assessments, including of psychological disorders and mental illness, relevant to individuals, groups and communities using valid and reliable approaches and sensitively communicate findings to a range of audiences
  • Integrate, interpret and synthesize assessment information with their knowledge of psychology to safely develop culturally responsive case conceptualizations, diagnoses, and interventions for diverse individuals, groups and communities, including as it relates to the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

International students must meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor degree in a cognate area (for example social sciences, psychology, community and welfare work, nursing, allied health, counselling), or
  • A Bachelor degree with evidence of at least one year of full-time study in social sciences, or equivalent, or
  • Successfully completed ACAP’s Graduate Certificate of Counselling

 Minimum English Language Requirements

To be accepted into the program, international students who have not completed a Year 12 or equivalent secondary school level qualification or higher qualification in the English language consistent with the requirements for admission to an AQF Level 8 degree course in Australia must have a minimum score of 6.5 or higher in each component (listening, reading, writing and speaking) of the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, or equivalent, upon application.
