Film Production Diploma

The program offers an intensive, behind-the-scenes education that covers all areas of filmmaking. You will experience every phase of pre-production, production, and post-production while learning from industry-active filmmakers with projects such as Beauty and the Beast, Black Panther, The Shape of Water and Star Trek Beyond to their credit. The program covers various aspects of filmmaking, including writing and analyzing screenplays, developing storyboards, creating shot lists and preparing budgets and schedules. You will learn to shoot, direct, block, light scenes and capture audio, as well as assemble, cut and manipulate footage. Upon graduation, the Film Production Work Placement helps you experience the creative workforce through placement opportunities in Canada’s “Hollywood North.”

FILM PRODUCTION WORK PLACEMENT

Success in screen industries comes from a blend of education, experience, and connections. The 6 and 12-month Film Production Work Placements offer you an opportunity to obtain all three ingredients. Through curated work opportunities, you will be embedded in the industry. You will have the chance to work with multiple companies and work alongside professionals on film projects in Toronto.

   You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

> If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
   We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

> If your program was 2 years or more
   We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

> If you completed more than 1 program
   You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -
must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

 Please submit two short assignments:

Movie Critique: Write a professional critique (300-500 words) about any feature length film, describing the film’s strengths and weaknesses and assessing its overall entertainment value. You should also include various elements of filmmaking such as direction, acting, lighting, editing, effects. We’re interested in seeing your level of awareness for what makes a film work (or not). Please note, movie critiques will not be returned.
Storyboard: Dream up any film idea and develop a storyboard. You may also include dialogue and direction. Don’t worry about your drawing skills, you can use storyboard software or stick figures. We’re looking to see your ability for putting single visual frames into a sequence that tells a story. Storyboards will be returned during the third week of classes.

Work Placement Requirements:  

In Term 3 of the Film Production diploma, you can apply for the 6 or 12-month work placement. After completion of the diploma, the Film Production Work Placement helps you experience the creative workforce through placement opportunities in Canada’s “Hollywood North.”

Requirements:

  • Apply in Term 3 of your Diploma
  • Maintain a B average in the Diploma
  • Submit resume to the work placement coordinator
