Graduate Diploma in Intensive Care Nursing
Our course aims to provide nurses with a great theoretical underpinning of clinical practice skills to deliver comprehensive care and advice to critically ill patients and their families, as well as work across complex medical environments that demand rapid, advanced and challenging decision making.

Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care Nursing (24 credit points)
Graduate Diploma in Intensive Care Nursing (48 credit points)
Master of Intensive Care Nursing (60 credit points)
Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Intensive Care Nursing can be used as credit towards the Master of Intensive Care Nursing.
Career Pathways
Graduates of this course will be recognised as having advanced knowledge relevant to intensive care nursing. Intensive care nurses normally work with a nurse patient ration of 1:1 and are in a position to provide comprehensive care to patients and their families. Many intensive care nurses also work in education, administration, research and as nurse consultants.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Admission to this course requires:
- a pre-registration nursing degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or
- an embedded graduate certificate in this discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or
- a minimum of five years experience as a registered nurse in Australia or overseas.

- International applicants are required to have a minimum of one year's experience in intensive care nursing and have a choice of providing a statement of support from their supervisor if they wish to undertake the required clinical assessments in their home country, or else the clinical assessments can be undertaken at the Sydney Nursing School under simulated conditions.
