MA Music for The Moving Image
Develop the technical and creative skills you’ll need to write music for the moving image.
As part of this course you’ll:
- Gain a solid grounding in the theories, techniques, and practices essential for contemporary film and television music production
- Have access to a suite of high-quality, professional music studios approved by JAMES, the accrediting body of the Music Producers Guild and the Association of Professional Recording Services
- Develop your composition skills in a range of genres
- Have the chance to work with colleagues from other media courses to further develop your portfolio of work; for example, you could find yourself working alongside student filmmakers from our university's Northern Film School
- Work on projects with award-winning composers from the film and television industry
- Have plenty of opportunities to sharpen your practical skills through our links with local and national music, arts and festival organisations
Campus Information
Headingley Campus
Our Headingley Campus is situated just outside of the city centre in the picturesque suburbs and is easily accessible by public transport with regular direct buses into the city. Headingley is an extremely popular student area. It has its own vibrant community with bars, shops and restaurants for you to enjoy. Our beautiful campus is full of green spaces, wildlife and historical buildings. It’s a wonderful contrast from the modern city campus, which is ideal as when you join us you will have the opportunity to enjoy both.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference

IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
