Mechanical Engineering BEng(Hons)
Our accredited course develops your mechanical engineering expertise and provides industrial and commercial insight. We work with industry experts and professional bodies to help you build skills and knowledge to prepare you for your career.
Learning with a course team with an international reputation for research, you’ll explore topics such as: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics and control, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, and mechanical design including computer-aided design.
Working with other engineering specialists on challenging and rewarding projects, and the chance to join our Formula Student team, gives you an experience that mirrors industry. Placements and guest lectures from industry experts provide valuable professional insight and networking opportunities.

Campus Information
Moulsecoomb campus
Two miles north of Brighton city centre and the seafront, Moulsecoomb is the largest of our four campuses with more than 8,000 students. Moulsecoomb Place is home to more than 160 students, while others live in nearby Varley Park. There are a number of areas of Brighton that are popular with students, just a short walk, cycle or bus ride away. These include Moulsecoomb, Bevendean, Hollingbury, Elm Grove, Hanover and other suburbs that stretch up the hills on either side of the Lewes Road.

PSW Opportunity
- 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
- 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
A-levels or BTEC
Entry requirements are in the range of A-level BBC–CCC (112–96 UCAS Tariff points), or BTEC Extended Diploma DMM–MMM. Our conditional offers typically fall within this range.
A-levels must include maths and a physical science. BTEC must include further maths for engineering techs.
International Baccalaureate
26 points, with three subjects at Higher level.
Access to HE Diploma
Pass with 60 credits overall. Level 3 units in maths and a physical science required. At least 45 credits at level 3, with 24 credits at merit or above.
GCSE (minimum grade C or grade 4)
At least five GCSEs, subjects must include English language, maths and a science.
Foundation degree/HND
May enable you to start the course in year 2.
Foundation course
Foundation course containing maths and a physical science, with an average of at least 55%.
We also offer this degree with an integrated foundation year for applicants who do not meet the standard entry requirements.
Studied before or got relevant experience?
A qualification, HE credits or relevant experience may count towards your course at Brighton, and could mean that you do not have to take some elements of the course or can start in year 2 or 3.
English language requirements
