Sport and Exercise Science BSc(Hons)

This course will develop your scientific and critical understanding of issues relevant to sport and exercise to improve both performance and health. The course brings together a diverse and fascinating range of subjects including anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, psychology, and nutrition.

This course could prepare you for a highly rewarding career including sports science support, physical activity coordinator, health advisor, sports development officer, personal trainer, exercise referral specialist; or after further training, a teacher in educational settings or a researcher.

How will you learn?
You’ll learn how the body responds and adapts to exercise, how to optimise sport performance, and how to promote positive behaviour change to improve health.
You’ll be able to use the fantastic range of facilities and specialist equipment in our biomechanics and physiology laboratories: from measuring fitness through gas analysis, to measuring reaction forces on the Kistler Force Plate, and capturing high-speed movements on our 3D motion analysis system.
In your second year, you’ll go on a work placement, which will provide you with the opportunity to apply your skills in a real-world context.
In your final year you’ll select a discipline specialisation and you will complete a student led research project.
This course is endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) ensuring that you are exposed to the interdisciplinary nature of sport and exercise Science, in addition to a focus on research.
This course is also applying for endorsement with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), which will allow us to offer industry qualifications within the degree, including NVQ Level 2 Award in Gym Instruction and NVQ Level 3 Personal Trainer Award. This will help to ensure that our graduates are industry ready.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

BBB at A Level (preferred subjects include PE, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Psychology)

120 UCAS tariff points from a combination of Level 3 qualifications including a grade B or above at A Level (in one of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, PE, or Psychology). Alternatively, a Distinction in BTEC Subsidiary Diploma or National Extended Certificate (in one of the following subjects: Applied Science, Sport, Sport and Exercise Science) is also accepted.

DDM in BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (preferred subjects include Sport or Applied Sciences)

Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits at Merit or above.
120 UCAS tariff points from International Baccalaureate qualifications which should include PE, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Psychology at Higher Level grade 6.
If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.
