Master of Education in Curriculum Studies with a Focus in Music Education
As a music educator, you face an increasingly complex environment with a changing society, technological shifts, and a student body with diverse needs. However, efforts to address these challenges through curriculum reform have often been met with resistance to institutional change.
Our Acadia University Master of Education in Curriculum Studies with a Focus in Music Education program will provide you with opportunities to learn and share experiences with colleagues in courses that offer both theoretical grounding and practical application. Through this program, you will develop as a leader in music education.
In this part-time program, you'll complete 10 courses over a two-year period. We've designed our program to be friendly to your schedule as a working professional. You'll study in a cohort group through a combination of virtual classroom sessions, online modules, and individual/group instruction, including face-to-face meetings with professors and advisors. Your program will build from one course to the next (unlike many online-only programs), culminating in a capstone experience.
Our program is designed to be course-based, but you can also consider a thesis option.
In our Music Education program, you will:
Refine your teaching abilities with expanded knowledge of both the theories behind music instruction and the application of those theories to the classroom.
Further your professional development and open up new career opportunities.
Learn from both the comfort of home and in two-week summer sessions at Acadia's historic campus.
Study in a proven program first offered in 2012 and now in its fifth cohort group.
Enjoy individual attention from professors who can relate to you as an educator. Renowned music educators associated with past program cohorts have included Dale Lonis, Jeffrey Agrell, Ardith Haley, Barbara Barter, June Countryman, Eric Favaro, Mark Hopkins, and Ruth Morrison, among others.
