Accountants are indispensable to every business; without them, a company would not know whether it was making a profit or a loss. But there’s so much more to modern accountancy than just balancing the books.

Accountants are also seen as business advisers, providing strategic financial guidance to senior executives. Our Accounting and Finance course provides an excellent path to many varied professional careers in areas such as banking, insurance, financial services, general management and the not-for-profit sector.

This hugely rewarding and highly useful programme develops your technical knowledge and professional skills and has been designed to give you a systematic understanding of current issues in accounting.

You learn how to produce accounting information and deploy strategic advice. Learning and teaching takes place in small class sizes to prepare you to work in management teams, and modules focus on applying theory to real business scenarios.

King Alfred Quarter

Student life is centred on our King Alfred Quarter, within walking distance of the historic cathedral city of Winchester. In recent years, the King Alfred Quarter has been added to and renovated to enhance its facilities with the latest industry-standard equipment, digital networks and AV technology. The award-winning King Alfred Centre is a bright and spacious social hub. It houses the Student Union, bookshop, Learning Cafe, Food Hall, Terrace Bar, Gourmet Burger Company, Student Union Shop and The Vault – the main venue for student social activities. The St Alphege building offers state-of-the-art learning and teaching facilities, including 10 lecture rooms and a mezzanine floor with open-access PCs.

West Downs Quarter

The West Downs Quarter is a short walk from the centre of the King Alfred Quarter. It is the home of the West Downs Student Village and the University of Winchester Business School. The University of Winchester Business School its own cafe (Cafe Life) and number social learning spaces with the latest IT equipment for you to use for individual and group work sessions. Other key features of the West Downs Quarter include the West Downs Gallery, which is open to the public and runs an art exhibition programme throughout the year featuring established and emerging artists from the world of visual arts. It is also home to the Research and Knowledge Exchange Centre, which is dedicated to research, enterprise and consultancy. It provides excellent resources for postgraduate students, particularly research students as it is the centre of research administration and support services.

Job Opportunity Potential

Many of our Accounting graduates take up trainee accounting positions with accounting firms or departments and go on to become professionally qualified accountants. Others choose to enter a wide range of business careers such as banking, insurance, financial services and general management. Recent employers of accounting graduates include Deloitte, RSM, Ordnance Survey, Larking Gowen, Aztec Group and PKF Francis Clark.

The University of Winchester ranks in the top 10 in the UK for graduates in employment or further study according to the Graduate Outcomes Survey 2021, HESA.

Accreditation
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) all offer graduates of this programme exemptions from some professional examinations.

Pre-approved for a Masters
If you study a Bachelor Honours Degree with us, you will be pre-approved to start a Masters degree at Winchester. To be eligible, you will need to apply by the end of March in the final year of your degree and meet the entry requirements of your chosen Masters degree.

PSW Opportunity

2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Foundation

Students who have completed 12th grade with scores between 50% and 70% will be considered

Undergraduate

Successful completion of a suitable one year UK Foundation course (normally minimum 60%)
International Baccalaureate(minimum of 24 points)
Successful completion of year 10 Maths and English with a minimum of 75% plus completion of:
Indian School Certificate (Year-12)
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12 - See required scores below
Diploma (from a State Board of Technical Education)
Applicants who have completed the first year of an undergraduate degree at a recognised Indian university may be considered for direct entry to undergraduate programmes.

Year 12 (HSC) grade requirements:

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) 70% or above
Calcutta Board and Tamil Nadu 70% or above
West Bengal 60% or above
Maharashtra 75% or above

For undergraduate study (including courses with an integrated foundation year)

Standard IELTS with an overall score of 5.5 at a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
Non-standard (for example; Physiotherapy, Social Work, Journalism, Nursing) IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.
