By studying CBU’s Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Health Care Management, the only of its kind in the Maritimes, you’ll learn the essential skills and aspects of managing and leading a health care unit successfully and efficiently.
In a climate of rising costs and tighter budgets, health care units are in the continual process of adapting, innovating, and reinventing themselves. Health care organizations are looking for employees who are knowledgeable of policy and quality of service directives and, at the same time, have the skills to manage people, resources, innovation, and costs. The comprehensive curriculum of this program allows students to learn essential aspects of managing a health care unit, including accounting, statistics, analytics, organizational behavior, and more, all within a culturally respectful environment.
This program is for domestic or international students who have an undergraduate degree, and wish to pursue supervisory careers in the field of health care. Or, for those students wishing to gain a foundational knowledge of management prior to pursuing a Master’s degree.
What skills will I gain from this program?
- Understand the effect of external environments (political, legal, market, sector) on the management of health care organizations
- Use data analytics tools and techniques to make strategic decisions, support operational goals and maximize resources
- Understand and respect the diverse beliefs, values, and health care needs of the community, including Indigenous health care priorities, barriers, and needs
- Ability to integrate technical knowledge of management, incorporating theoretical and ethical concepts in managing people, operations and finances

Job Opportunity Potential
The Career Services team at CBU is here to work with you before, during and after your time as a Cape Breton University student. Our staff members consist of Student Development Officers and Student Placement Officers who will work with you on a number of subjects.
Student Development Officer:
- Provides one-on-one advising appointments to assist in academic and career planning decisions
- Offers individual sessions and group workshops to help you develop employment readiness skills such as resume/cover letter writing, interviewing skills and business etiquette

Student Placement Officers:
- Coordinate the Co-operative Education Program
- Support the HATM Internship and BACS Work Placement Courses
- Share current job opportunities for students and recent graduates

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor's Degree with a B average from a recongnized university
- a completed application from, with the non-refundable application fees
- officiual transcripts for all previous post-secondary study
- a resume detailing employment experience, skills, community involvement and interests
- a 500-800 word statement on desire to enter the program
- there reference-letters, preferably including one professional and one academic reference, each accompanied by a completed reference from
- satisfactory scores on the GMAT or GRE
- satisfactory scores on the TOEFL/IELTS (for students whose native language is not English)
- satisfactory performance in an interview
