Bachelor of Pacific Studies

As Australia’s engagement with the Pacific increases, so does the need for graduates with Pacific expertise. The Bachelor of Pacific Studies offers the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the diversity, history and contemporary issues of Oceania, preparing you to take a leading role in Pacific policy and development. 

Learning about the Pacific is a voyage of discovery, and at the ANU you have the opportunity to learn from the world’s leading experts on the Pacific. As a Pacific Studies student you will be joining a community of scholars dedicated to addressing the Pacific’s most pressing challenges, including climate change. 

Pacific Studies at the ANU will provide you with an interdisciplinary grounding to engage with diverse Pacific voices, approaches and perspectives. Our courses incorporate Indigenous perspectives, experiential and innovative ways of learning, and creative problem-solving. In the degree program you will also have the opportunity to engage in internship and immersion programs in Oceania, boosting your language skills and knowledge of the region.

Acton campus

Our Acton campus is in the heart of Canberra - Australia's capital city - in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). From here it's an easy walk, bike ride or drive to some of Australia's most significant political and cultural institutions including Australian Parliament House. Amongst our modern lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, student residences and administration buildings, you'll find all the conveniences of a small suburb including cafes, bars, supermarkets, child care centres, a newsagency, post office and even a medical centre.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants who complete a recognised secondary/senior secondary/post-secondary/tertiary sequence of study will be assessed on the basis of an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application.
